La Hora del Planeta también se presenció en China |Composición: Notitotal |Fotos crédito: Reuters

La Hora del Planeta, la mayor iniciativa global contra el cambio climático, se celebró ayer en una cifra récord de 187 países y territorios, donde más de 3.000 monumentos y edificios emblemáticos apagaron sus luces durante 60 minutos.

La ONG ecologista Fondo Mundial por la Naturaleza (WWF), organizadora de la iniciativa, informó en un comunicado de que la Hora del Planeta generó más de 1.100 millones de visionados en las redes sociales en 24 horas, mientras que fue tendencia en al menos 30 países.

WWF recordó que 2016 fue el año con las temperaturas más altas registradas, por lo que la acción, que cumple este año su décimo aniversario, es más necesaria que nunca.

“Una vez más, la gente ha hablado a través de la Hora del Planeta. Ya estés en Filipinas, Perú o Portugal, el cambio climático importa y la participación récord este año es un potente recordatorio de que la gente, que está en la vanguardia del cambio climático, quiere formar parte de la acción”, dijo Sid Das, director de la iniciativa. EFE

Entre los monumentos y edificios icónicos que se quedaron a oscuras a lo largo de la jornada estuvieron:

  • La Ópera de Sidney

  • El Big Ben londinense

  • El Empire State Building neoyorquino

  • Pirámides de Guiza

  • El Monumento a la Independencia de México

  • La Torre Eiffel
